ILS Panel on Finance

Among the many vital discussions at the India Leadership Summit 2009, we have a panel that will talk about the Indian financial sector. Saurabh Sharma speaks about putting this panel together.

Why did you choose to have this panel on finance?
Given the penetration of FDIs in India in the last few years most of the business conferences have been focused on private equity investing. However the financial landscape has changed now. The valuations have been questioned and growth has had a more realistic pattern. So we decided to create a diversified panel that would discuss the finance sector as a whole.

What would the discussion be around?
We'll be bringing panelists from the commercial retail banking, asset managers and private equity investors, who can not only give business perspectives but also talk about the impact of deregulation in the sector going forward. Given that the Indian investing industry is still in its nascent stage in terms of its product offerings, there is a huge opportunity to be tapped as the industry unfolds and becomes more sophisticated.
The Finance panel aims to help identify challenges and constraints inherent in India, preventing the market from the big leap. It will also showcase hitherto untapped opportunities, which could “Fuel India’s Growth”. In true Chicago style, this panel encourages debate that is driven by fundamentals, empirical analysis, and yet, grounded in realism.

Who are the panelists?
Mr. Manoj Verma is a Senior Vice President & Strategic Initiatives Director at Citi Cards in the US. With over 20 years of total work experience in multiple continents and Geographies, Mr. Verma is a seasoned Retail Banking professional and Leader.
